Intel teases the Xe-HPG discrete gaming GPU

The CPU giant finally steps into the gaming graphics market and drops in the official teaser which tells soon we can see some kind of announcement. Actually the company dropped a short video teaser during the GDC 2021 Showcase where it did indeed present its latest CPUs and GPUs.

Obviously, besides this, their recently announced 11th Gen Rocket Lake-S desktop CPUs have also been shown to be the best for gaming as well. However, the main highlight has to be its upcoming gaming GPUs, provided the fact that this sector had only been dominated by AMD and NVIDIA alone.

The teaser is an interesting one, because, here we see the Intel’s already used Xe-LP graphics that we have seen on few laptops, is getting an energy beam on it. Now, this energy the Xe-LP graphics to expand the silicon into 5 layers of blocks, maybe suggesting that its new gaming GPU will have 5 times as many Execution Units.

If we go by that way, then the Xe-LP DG1 GPU which comes with up to 96 EUs could feature around 480 EUs. Whatever that actually might suggest but Intel did give a lot of info about its upcoming Intel Xe-HPG architecture last year and its broader outlook in terms of the total graphics market.

Hopefully, with this teaser, we can expect Intel to launch its new gaming GPUs by the end of 2021 and it is also rumored that these graphics processors will be manufactured by an external foundry.
