Key Upgrades and Downgrades in Galaxy S26 Lineup
The good: Thinner bodies across the board despite larger batteries. The S26 jumps from 4,000mAh to 4,300mAh, while slimming from 7.2mm to 6.9mm. M14 OLED displays promise 20-30% better power efficiency with improved viewing angles.
The controversial: Samsung may ditch pre-order storage upgrades for the first time, forcing buyers into paid storage tiers immediately. The Ultra also switches from titanium to aluminium construction—a cost-cutting move dressed as “refinement.”
Privacy Display Technology
The S26 Ultra debuts Privacy Display using Flex Magic Pixel technology, making on-screen content harder to view from angles—perfect for sensitive work on public transit. The 10-bit panel also improves color accuracy and gradients.
Charging Finally Catches Up
After years of criticism, the S26 Ultra jumps from 45W to 60W wired charging and adds Qi2 magnetic wireless charging across the entire lineup. Qi2 enables MagSafe-style accessories and faster 15W wireless speeds.
Camera Refinements, Not Revolution
The Ultra’s 200MP main sensor gets a wider f/1.4 aperture (vs. f/1.7) for better low-light performance, while the new 24MP photo mode balances file size and detail. The 12MP 3x telephoto replaces the previous 10MP sensor.
Base S26 and S26+ models stick with identical 50MP + 12MP + 10MP setups from last year—disappointing for users hoping for hardware upgrades.
Pricing Strategy
Prices reportedly remain stable or slightly decrease in some markets, despite component cost pressures. The Ultra may actually cost less in Europe compared to the S25 Ultra launch price, though base models might see small increases.
