Strasbourg defender Mohamed Simakan is close to joining RB Leipzig, according to Fabrizio Romano on the Here We Go podcast along with Francesco Porzio. The Italian duo commented on how Leipzig always look for new young talent. Notable examples of such players include Dominik Szoboszlai, Dayot Upamecano, Timo Werner and Marcel Sabitzer.
The German club will have to pay a fee worth around €15-20 million for the French centre-back. Interestingly, Chelsea’s transfer plans for the summer could be affected should Leipzig complete the signing of Simakan in the summer. This is because Simakan was on the list of Chelsea.
Originally, the player was a target for Milan but now that he is joining Leipzig, the Serie A outfit have one name out of the list. Meanwhile, Chelsea loanee Fikayo Tomori is impressing at the San Siro. Milan have the option of making the move permanent for €28 mill, and they will decide at the end of the season. All that said, there are a lot of positive feelings about Tomori’s current situation at Milan.
Leipzig’s pursuit of Mohamed Simakan was a consequence of Upamecano joining Bayern, as announced a couple of months ago. This in turn has set up an entire chain reaction that could affect the businesses of clubs in three different countries.
