Gavaskar Gifts Jemimah Bat-Shaped Guitar Before WPL 2026

Cricket legend Sunil Gavaskar fulfilled his promise to Jemimah Rodrigues by gifting her a custom bat-shaped guitar and jamming together before WPL 2026. The heartwarming gesture honored India’s World Cup-winning performance and Jemimah’s heroic semifinal century.

Promise Kept After World Cup Triumph

The Special Moment

Fulfilling a Heartfelt Promise

Following India’s historic ODI World Cup semifinal victory against Australia, where Jemimah scored an unbeaten 127 in a record chase of 339 runs, Gavaskar made a lighthearted promise during a discussion on India Today. He said he would jam with the talented batter if India won the tournament.

India delivered, defeating South Africa by 52 runs in the final on November 2 to claim their maiden World Cup crown. True to his word, the legendary former India cricketer met Jemimah on the eve of the Women’s Premier League to fulfill his commitment.

The Unique Guitar

In a video that went viral across social media, Gavaskar presented Jemimah with a special custom-made guitar designed in the shape of a cricket bat. The instrument cleverly blends her two greatest passions—cricket and music—into one unique piece.

When Jemimah asked whether the bat was meant for batting or playing music, Gavaskar replied that she could do both, adding that when she scores runs, there’s a rhythm to her batting like music.

Musical Celebration

The duo sang the classic Bollywood friendship song together, creating a memorable moment that charmed fans. Jemimah shared the heartwarming encounter on Instagram, writing that Gavaskar kept his promise and they jammed with the coolest bat-guitar ever, calling it a special moment.

The video showed Jemimah’s delight as she unboxed the custom gift, admiring the bat-shaped guitar’s craftsmanship before the impromptu performance.

New Leadership Responsibilities

Beyond this touching gesture, Jemimah faces significant new challenges. She has been appointed captain of Delhi Capitals for WPL 2026, stepping up from vice-captain under Australia’s Meg Lanning, who now leads UP Warriorz.

Former India captain Anjum Chopra noted that Rodrigues now has a chance to expand her skills beyond batting and fielding into long-term leadership. Delhi Capitals finished runners-up in all three previous WPL editions, and the franchise has placed faith in Jemimah to turn close finishes into trophies.

Leading Experienced Squad

As captain, Jemimah must guide both seasoned internationals like Marizanne Kapp and emerging Indian talents including Shafali Verma and Niki Prasad. This responsibility represents significant growth for the World Cup hero as she handles established cricketers while nurturing rising stars.

Career-Defining Phase

The combination of Gavaskar’s musical gift and the captaincy appointment marks a pivotal phase for Jemimah Rodrigues. The jam session underlined respect from a senior India icon, while her new leadership role with Delhi Capitals presents an opportunity to shape the next chapter of an already notable career.
