The production team chose locations that naturally embodied the film’s bleak, survival-driven narrative. From volcanic landscapes to military training grounds, each setting serves the story’s visceral realism.

Complete Filming Location Guide:

Why Iceland Was the Perfect Choice

Iceland’s otherworldly terrain has become Hollywood’s go-to for dystopian worlds, and Greenland 2 is no exception. The rugged, volcanic landscapes around Reykjavík provided the perfect backdrop for depicting a world ravaged by the Clarke comet. According to Lionsgate, these natural features eliminated the need for extensive CGI, grounding the film in tangible reality.

The isolation and raw beauty of Iceland’s geography mirror the Garrity family’s desperate journey across a broken Europe—a visual metaphor that resonates throughout the film.

England’s Diverse Production Sites

England offered versatility that Iceland couldn’t match. Alton’s Hampshire countryside brought authenticity to survival sequences, while Long Valley in Aldershot—a working military training area—provided controlled access for intense action scenes.

Shinfield Studios became the production’s nerve center, where interior sets and complex choreographed sequences came together. The studio’s state-of-the-art facilities allowed seamless integration between location footage and controlled environments.
