Samsung Electronics officially listed the Exynos 5410 Modem on its semiconductor portal, confirming mass production of the industry’s first chip integrating three distinct non-terrestrial network (NTN) communication standards. The modem targets Galaxy S26 series deployment in early 2026.

Exynos 5410 Specifications

Feature	Details
Process Node	4nm FinFET
NTN Standards	LTE DTC, NB-IoT NTN, NR-NTN
Peak Download	14.79 Gbps (5G NR dual connectivity)
Spectrum Support	Sub-6 GHz (FR1), mmWave (FR2)
Security	Hybrid Post-Quantum Cryptography
Expected Device	Galaxy S26 series (early 2026)

Triple-Standard Architecture

The Exynos 5410 enables tiered satellite connectivity through three integrated technologies:

NB-IoT NTN: Low-bandwidth text messaging and location tracking for emergency communications.

LTE Direct-to-Cell (DTC): Satellite-based voice calls providing reliable communication in areas without terrestrial coverage.

NR-NTN: High-bandwidth applications including video streaming, marking a significant leap beyond basic emergency messaging.

This comprehensive approach bridges the gap between emergency satellite services and true mobile ubiquity, adhering to 3GPP Release 17 standards.

Quantum-Resistant Security

A critical upgrade features Root of Trust (RoT)-based Hybrid Post-Quantum Cryptography (PQC) at the hardware level. This technology encrypts sensitive identifiers like the International Mobile Equipment Identity (IMEI), protecting against future decryption threats posed by quantum computing advances.

The quantum-resistant security ensures long-term data protection as computing technology evolves beyond current encryption capabilities.

Strategic Development Timeline

Samsung’s NTN journey began with 5G NTN simulations on the Exynos 5300 platform in February 2023. The Exynos 5410 received specific certification from Skylo Technologies following a 2023 strategic partnership validating NTN support on Samsung’s cellular chipsets.

Standalone Modem Architecture Shift

The Exynos 5410 marks Samsung’s transition to external modem architecture. Reports indicate the upcoming Exynos 2600 processor—the world’s first 2nm smartphone chip—will decouple the cellular radio to maximize die space for AI logic and graphics processing.

Despite traditional efficiency concerns with standalone modems, Samsung claims the 5410 offers reduced standby power consumption compared to the previous Exynos 5400, addressing a key challenge in external modem designs.

Executive Vision for 6G Ecosystem

Park Yong-in, President and Head of Samsung Electronics’ System LSI Business, stated: “Samsung aims to take the lead in advancing hybrid terrestrial-NTN communications ecosystems around the world in preparation for the arrival of 6G. Standardizing NB-IoT NTN technology within our modem platforms eliminates the need for separate high-power wireless antenna chips, providing greater design flexibility for mobile device makers.”

Commercial Implementation

The modem’s mass production status indicates validation with major global carrier partners is underway. The Galaxy S26 smartphone series will debut the technology commercially in early 2026, potentially setting new standards for satellite-enabled consumer devices.
