YouTube’s annual Impact Summit delivered staggering numbers: its creator ecosystem contributed over ₹16,000 crores to India’s GDP and supported 930,000+ jobs, according to a new Oxford Economics report. Alongside this revelation, the platform announced revolutionary AI tools and strategic partnerships, positioning India as a global digital creativity hub.

Economic Impact at Scale

Metric	Figure
GDP Contribution	₹16,000+ crores
Jobs Supported	930,000+ positions
Creator Dependency	63% rely on YouTube as primary income
Health Content Views	300+ billion (India, 2024)

Gunjan Soni, Managing Director – India, YouTube, emphasized: “Our impact isn’t just about views; it’s about livelihoods. We see this when 63% of our monetizing creators agree YouTube is their primary source of revenue.”

Game-Changing AI Tools

Edit with AI: Now available in the YouTube Create app, this tool transforms raw footage into polished first drafts, drastically reducing editing time for India’s growing creator community.

Conversational AI Tool: Viewers can ask questions and receive instant answers within the video player. Available in English now, Hindi coming soon.

Likeness Detection: Rolling out to all YouTube Partner Program creators, this safeguard helps monitor and remove unauthorized AI-altered videos using their facial likeness—critical protection as deepfakes proliferate.

Strategic Partnerships

Indian Institute of Creative Technologies (IICT): YouTube will provide industry webinars, launch the “Create with AI” funding program, and support IICT’s official channel, preparing students for careers in Animation, VFX, Gaming, and XR industries.

AIIMS Collaboration: Expert-designed nursing courses covering Wound Care and Hospital Infection Control will reach 5,000+ nursing students nationwide, democratizing medical training beyond Delhi.

Health and Digital Well-Being

YouTube expanded First Aid shelves in English and Hindi, providing credible emergency medical content at the top of search results. New daily scroll limits for Shorts feed encourage healthier viewing habits, while “take a break” reminders remain default for users under 18.

Hon’ble Minister Smt. Annapurna Devi praised the initiatives: “It is encouraging to see platforms like YouTube align with the Ministry’s missions by creating pathways to credible information, economic independence, and digital literacy.”

Why This Matters

With 98% of Indian users using YouTube for information and knowledge, the platform has transcended entertainment to become essential infrastructure. The ₹16,000 crore GDP contribution validates the creator economy as a legitimate career path, while AI tools lower production barriers for emerging creators across tier-2 and tier-3 cities.

As India’s internet population approaches 1 billion users, YouTube’s investments in training, healthcare, and technology infrastructure accelerate the nation’s digital transformation while creating meaningful employment at scale—proving India isn’t just a market, but the future of global digital innovation.
