Fabregas, Henry

Cesc Fabregas has signed for Ligue 1 side Monaco, and will play under his former teammate Thierry Henry.

Fabregas and Henry aren’t the 1st pair to go through this situation. There are many instances in football history, when a manager at the start of his coaching career has to manage his former teammates.
Lets have a look at some of them.

Atletico Madrid : Fernando Torres | Diego Simeone
Fernando Torres and Diego Simeone both played together for Atletico Madrid in between 2003 and 2005.
Simeone took over Atletico Madrid as manager in 2011. After his appointment he has helped the club to come out of Real Madrid’s shadow. He won 1 LaLiga and 1 Copa Del Ray and 2 Europa League with Atletico Madrid.

Juventus : Gianluigi Buffon | Antonio Conte
Antonio Conte played 13 years for Juventus. In his last three years 2001-2004 he played alongside young Gianluigi Buffon.
Buffon was still playing for Juventus when Conte was appointed as the manager in 2011. Conte managed Buffon for 3 years before leaving Juventus in 2014.
They won 3 consecutive Seria A titles together and laid the foundation of their dominance in Italian football.

AC Milan

AC Milan : Ignazio Abate | Filippo Inzaghi, Clarence Seedorf and Gennaro Gattuso
Ignazio Abate played alongside AC Milan legends Filippo Inzaghi, Clarence Seedorf and Gennaro Gattuso in between 2009 and 2012.
Since 2012 all three Inzaghi, Seedorf and Gattuso has managed Abate. Gattuso is the current manager of Milan.
Even though Abate is 32 now, appearances are pretty regular for the right-back.

Manchester United : Wayne Rooney | Ryan Giggs
Ryan Giggs became the interim manager of Manchester United after the dismissal run of David Moyes.
Giggs played with almost att the Manchester United players of that time. But Rooney was the most prominent, playing alongside the Welshman for an entire decade.

Ramos, Zidane

Real Madrid : Sergio Ramos | Zinedine Zidane
Zinedine Zidane played alongside Sergio Ramos in his last season at Real Madrid.
Zidane took over Real Madrid in 2016. The duo, Ramos as captain and Zidane as coach, created history by winning 3 consecutive Champions League title and 1 LaLiga.

Barcelona : Carles Puyol | Pep Guardiola
“Guardiola told me to start thinking about Luis Figo and doing my homework,” Puyol says of his first taste of El Clásico, way back in 2000. Guardiola, of course, was Puyol’s team-mate at the time. Puyol heard his words and helped Barcelona win 2-0.
The pair were reunited when Guardiola was appointed Barcelona head coach in 2008 and the rest really is history. With Puyol as his captain, Guardiola led Barcelona to 14 trophies in just four seasons.

Fabregas, Henry

Fabregas played with Henry at Arsenal at the start of his career, between 2003 and 2007. Thierry Henry was the star man in Arsenal’s golden era and Fabregas took the mantle as the club transitioned into the second half of Arsène Wenger’s time in charge.
After starting out with Arsenal as a roaming attacking midfielder with a clinical eye for goal and a deft pass, Fabregas moved into a deeper-lying position over the years where his vision of the game and outstanding passing range helped him to remain influential in games. Henry looks forward to take advantage of these qualities of Fabregas in the hope of reclaiming Monaco’s form.
