28 minutes into his return to Eintracht Frankfurt, Luka Jovic managed to equal the number of goals he had scored during 18 months at Real Madrid. The Serbian came on from the bench in the 62nd minute for Erik Durm and took only 10 minutes to get his name on the scoresheet.
The striker smashed home a pass from Filip Kostic to break the deadlock and scored again in injury time to seal all three points for Frankfurt.
“It’s an amazing feeling with the win and the two goals I scored. I couldn’t have imagined a better comeback. I hope this is just the start and that the best is yet to come, I want to thank the fans for their support,” said Jovic.
The player’s spell at Real Madrid was plagued with injuries and spells on the bench due to Karim Benzema’s stronghold on the striker’s position in the starting XI. Even when the youngster was given a chance, he failed to make a mark due to spending extended spells on the bench.
Being a young talent demands that the player spend time on the pitch, and minutes were something that Jovic did not get a lot of, apart from goals.
The 23-year-old will be hoping to regain his confidence to put in consistent performances soon, since the loan deal expires at the end of the season, and he will have to rejoin Los Blancos when the time comes.
It can only be hoped that the second attempt at a starting position goes down well for Jovic, who still has time on his side.
