4.5 Million Streams, Mixed Reviews: Inside Jennie’s “Fallen Angel” Debut Day

Jennie’s new EP just posted numbers most artists dream of, but her fanbase isn’t fully sold. “Fallen Angel” launched with a massive first-day streaming haul, yet the comment sections tell a more complicated story.

The Numbers Behind the Launch

Released on August 28 through Odd Atelier and Columbia Records, the three-track EP opened with more than 4.5 million unfiltered Spotify streams on day one. The breakdown: “HEAVEN” led the pack with roughly 1.6 million streams, the title track “FALLEN ANGEL” followed close behind at around 1.5 million, and “Less than a Lover” — already released as a single weeks earlier — added another 1.4 million. Beyond Spotify, the “Fallen Angel” music video became YouTube’s No. 1 trending music video and crossed 10 million views shortly after dropping, while the EP also debuted at No. 1 worldwide on iTunes.

Why Some Fans Are Torn

Despite the strong numbers, reactions have split. Part of the divide traces back to the EP’s announcement itself: when the three-song tracklist was revealed, many fans were disappointed that festival favorites like “Lock It Down” and “Sweet Tooth” — songs Jennie had already performed live at Governors Ball, Lollapalooza, and Summer Sonic — didn’t make the digital cut. Those tracks did land on the physical CD edition instead, alongside “Face,” giving that version six songs total.

Once the “FALLEN ANGEL” video itself dropped, opinions split further. Some listeners praised the cinematic, Tim Burton-inspired visuals built around biblical imagery, bonfires, and stark color contrasts, calling it some of her best work yet. Others argued the sound and styling felt derivative rather than original, fueling online debate even as the streaming numbers climbed.
