1. Kattalan — A Village Empire Under Siege
Leading the pack is Kattalan, starring Antony Varghese Pepe, Sunil, Kabir Duhan Singh, Jagadish, and Dushara Vijayan, with special cameos from Lokesh Kanagaraj and Alphonse Puthren. Directed by Paul George, this action thriller follows Antony, a skilled operative who infiltrates the powerful empire of Maari after he seizes control of a remote village on the Kerala-Tamil Nadu border.
As Antony climbs the ranks, he witnesses villagers being oppressed and forests being destroyed. With a hidden agenda of his own, he turns against Maari from within, setting up a high-stakes showdown to bring the empire down. Kattalan streams on ManoramaMAX starting August 13.
2. Bigg Boss Malayalam 8 – Agnipariksha — The Countdown Begins
Ahead of the main Bigg Boss Malayalam Season 8, hosted by Mohanlal, a digital pre-show titled Agnipariksha is set to premiere on JioHotstar on August 15. Featuring Ranjini Haridas, Reneesha Rahiman, Riyas Salim, and Akhil Marar, this spin-off focuses on selecting commoner contestants who’ll eventually enter the main Bigg Boss house — perfect for fans who want to get a head start on the season’s buzz.
3. Aroopi — A Curse Unleashed
For horror fans, Aroopi brings a genuinely eerie premise. Starring Vysakh Ravi, Neha Chawla, Joy Mathew, and Sindhu Varma, and directed by Abhilash Warrier, the film follows a vengeful Yakshini once sealed inside a doll at the Aryanattu estate — until two thieves accidentally set her free.
When a brutal incident pulls Niranjan, the last surviving heir of the estate’s lineage, back to his ancestral home, he’s forced to confront an ancient curse and unearth dark secrets buried within his family’s past. Aroopi streams on Prime Video starting August 14.
Why This Week’s Lineup Stands Out
This week blends three very different genres — gritty crime drama, reality TV anticipation, and folklore-inspired horror — giving Malayalam OTT audiences a genuinely varied slate to choose from. The Yakshi, a mythological female spirit rooted in South Indian folklore, remains a recurring and popular figure in Malayalam horror storytelling, and Aroopi taps directly into that tradition.
