TCS has broken its own world record. The 13th season of TCS CodeVita drew 146,922 participants — officially the largest computer programming competition ever held, surpassing TCS’s own 2021 Guinness World Record. The winner: Zhou Jingkai, 21, from China, who came agonizingly close last year as top Emerging Coder before returning to claim the top spot.

What Made CodeVita 2026 Historic
Beyond the record-breaking participation of nearly 1.47 lakh coders, this season introduced a landmark new format: a Human-AI collaboration mini-competition for the 30 finalists, where participants used frontier AI models — including ChatGPT, Claude Sonnet, and Gemini — to solve complex programming problems.

TCS used this to study in real time how humans leverage AI as a validator, collaborator, or outsourcing partner — a fascinating data point as the industry grapples with AI’s role in software development. Another milestone: six Indian women finalists made the global top 30 — the highest representation of women across all 13 editions.
The competition itself is a six-hour open-book challenge with real-world problems that escalate in complexity across rounds, with only the top 30 advancing to the final. Historically a pipeline to TCS careers, selected finalists earn internship opportunities with TCS Research and Innovation.
