Spotify’s audio streaming platform experienced a brief outage on Friday, preventing tens of thousands of users from accessing the platform before services appeared to be restored. The outage has received over 30,000 reports on DownDetector.com, beginning shortly before 8 p.m. ET and rapidly increasing since then. At the height of the outage, Downdetector, reported more than 45,000 affected users from the United States.
The company’s web API status page indicates a “minor” partial outage affecting only the player itself, which is consistent with what we’re seeing — but that’s also the most important part of Spotify.
The last time we saw this kind of service-wide outage for Spotify, it was due to a Google Cloud issue, but there’s no indication of a larger cloud or routing issue that could have impacted other services.
As Spotify resumed service, Downdetector reported that the number of reports of outages had dropped below 2,000.
