Google is implementing new performance Review system to fire employees

Google is implementing a new performance review system, which is expected to put more employees at risk of obtaining poor performance ratings. Furthermore, fewer employees will be able to get high grades than in prior years. Google officials provided details about the new employee review system during a recent all-hands meeting. This new system will go into effect next year.

According to CNBC, Google believes that under the new method, 6% of full-time employees will slip into a low-ranking category. This will place them in the high-risk group, which may result in termination. According to the article, Google will take corrective action against these employees. To put this in context, Google now marks only 2% of its employees.

The difficulties for Google employees will not end here. Even the best-performing staff will have to work more to achieve the highest possible grade.

Employees will find it more difficult to get high ratings, with Google forecasting that only 22% of employees will be ranked in one of the two highest categories, compared to 27% under the existing system. The new performance assessment system, which is slated to go into force next year, includes a category dubbed “Transformative Impact,” which requires staff to have “achieved the near-impossible” and accomplished “more than we thought possible” to qualify.

Earlier this year, Google unveiled the new GRAD (Google Reviews and Development) employee review system. Many staff are concerned about technological problems with the review system, which has a year-end deadline.

Google CEO Sundar Pichai did not rule out layoffs during an internal meeting earlier this month. The lower 6% of employees correlate with the story suggesting that 10,000 Google employees will be laid off in 2023. The new review method will assist management in reaching that conclusion. The tech sector in the United States has been hurting from job losses, with most of the leading brands laying off a record number of staff. Companies such as Meta, Amazon, Twitter, and Salesforce have made the decision to reduce their personnel.
