The rumoured Ada Lovelace dies that will power Nvidia’s RTX 40-series Mobile GPUs and their accompanying power objectives have been published by hardware leaker Harukaze5719. The most intriguing claim in the leak is that Nvidia may be working on a GeForce RTX 4090 Mobile, marking the first time this model number has been used in the mobile market. Of course, you should take the information that has leaked with a grain of salt.

The GeForce RTX 40-series Mobile GPUs include the GeForce RTX 4090 Mobile, GeForce RTX 4080 Ti Mobile, GeForce RTX 4070 Mobile, GeForce RTX 4060 Ti Mobile, and GeForce RTX 4060 Mobile, according to the leak (via REHWK). Additionally, the GeForce RTX 4090 Mobile is said to use the AD103 die, the GeForce RTX 4080 Ti relies on the AD104 die, while the GeForce RTX 4070 Mobile uses the AD106 silicon. Finally, the AD107 chip could be used in the GeForce RTX 4060 Mobile versions.

The GeForce RTX 4090 Mobile, GeForce RTX 4080 Ti Mobile, and GeForce RTX 4070 Ti Mobile are all said to have a maximum power consumption of 175W. The TDP for the GeForce RTX 4060 Mobile and GeForce RTX 4060 Ti Mobile SKUs was sadly not disclosed by the leaker. If these numbers are correct, the GeForce RTX 4090 should be a significant improvement for mobile devices, offering performance comparable to the desktop GeForce RTX 3090 or GeForce RTX 3080 at just 175W.

In contrast to the desktop GeForce RTX 4080 16GB, which will ship with an AD103 die that has been significantly neutered, Nvidia may need to unlock all cores on the AD103 to maintain performance at these lower TDPs.

Due to the alleged die shift from AD103 to AD104, the performance of the GeForce RTX 4080 Ti Mobile should be significantly lower than that of the GeForce RTX 4090 Mobile. In essence, the GeForce RTX 4080 Ti Mobile will be the mobile version of the now-deleted GeForce RTX 4080 12GB SKU because AD104, with all cores active, represents a 40% reduction in core count. However, as clock speeds have the potential to vary widely due to the slightly lower TDPs required on mobile SKUs, performance will mostly be determined by clock speed in the mobile market.

The GeForce RTX 4080 Ti Mobile is likely to run at much higher clock speeds than the GeForce RTX 4090 Mobile due to the 40% reduction in core count on AD103. The GeForce RTX 4060 Mobile and Ti version GPUs use the entry-level AD107 die rather than the more expensive AD106 die, which makes it intriguing that the GeForce RTX 4060 Ti Mobile may be released so early in the mobile pipeline. In contrast to 30 series models, which used the GA106 die to power the xx60 series cards, this one does not.

Based on the power consumption targets and die models mentioned in the leaks, Ada Lovelace mobile appears to be quite strong overall. The power objectives for GeForce RTX 4070 Mobile and higher SKUs will be substantially higher than those for GeForce RTX 30-series GPUs, with the GeForce RTX 4090 Mobile potentially matching the gaming performance of the desktop GeForce RTX 3090 or GeForce RTX 3080. But whenever Nvidia delivers these GPUs, we’ll have to wait to see how far apart they are. Performance can be significantly impacted by the fact that Nvidia’s GeForce RTX 40-series Mobile GPUs still have a 50% effective nerf to power targets over RTX 30-series desktop GPUs. Ada Lovelace’s performance on the TSMC 4n node at these “extremely low” power targets is everything.
