Asia Cup 2022 saw lots of uncertainty as well as top-notch cricket. The tournament that spanned over two weeks ended on Sunday, the finale being played between Sri Lanka and Pakistan. Pakistan saw a good start initially but couldn’t chase the total that SL posted. The team defended 170 runs and lifted the cup for the sixth time. Sri Lankan Player Wanindu Hasaranga won the player of the series award while Mohammad Rizwan and Bhuvneshwar Kumar were the leading run-scorer and wicket-taker respectively.
Sri Lankan player Wanindu Hasaranga needs to be appreciated as Sri Lanka’s victory was in his hands. His biggest contribution was in the finale where he scored good runs and even had a good bowling figure of 4-0-27-3. These tiny steps helped the island nation take the victory.
Mohammad Rizwan on the other hand mustered a half-century and became the highest run scorer. Virat Kohli is in the second position. On the other hand, Sri Lankan duo Pathum Nissanka and Bhanuka Rajapaksa are in the top 5 list.
Indian bowler Bhuvneshwar Kumar also topped the bowling charts having 11 scalps in five games. Hasaranga finished at the second spot while Pakistani players Mohammad Nawaz Shadab Khan and Haris Rauf made it to the top 5.
Pakistan finished as runners-up and received a cash prize of $75,000 for their achievements in the Asia Cup. Sri Lanka also received double the money that Pakistan received, $150,000 as their prize pot.
It was indeed a special win for Sri Lanka since they won the Asia Cup during a time of crisis.
