Asia Cup 2022: Indian squad for the tournament announced, Virat Kohli and KL Rahul return

The Asia Cup which will start on August 27 has created hype among the fans already. The All-India Senior Selection Committee has announced the 15-member squad for the upcoming tournament.

Rohit Sharma is set to lead the team. It’s speculated that Virat Kohli and KL Rahul are going to make a comeback whereas Sanju Samson and Ishan Kishan won’t be playing. Jasprit Bumrah and Harshal Patel won’t be playing as well, since they missed the selection test due to their injuries. Bhuveneshwar Kumar will play in place of Jasprit Bumrah.

Rishabh Pant and Dinesh Karthik are the two wicket-keepers. The three specialist spinners are Ravichandran Ashwin, Yuzvendra Chahal, and Ravi Bishnoi. On the other hand, Hardik Pandya and Ravindra Jadeja are the two all-rounders. Deepak Hooda and Surya Kumar Yadav are the batters.

KL Rahul didn’t appear in the T20 series against West Indies due to COVID-19 but is expected to be back as the vice-captain.

This is the 15th edition of the tournament that will be played in UAE between six teams. India is the defending champion and also the most successful team. The team has won the trophy seven times. Last time, the tournament was held in the ODI format, however, this time the tournament will be in T20 format.

The six teams to take part in the tournament are India, Pakistan in Group A along with a qualifying team, and Group B consists of Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, and Afghanistan.

Each team will play against the other team in the group stage with the top two teams from each group will go to the advanced group of the Super 4 round. The winning teams of this round will qualify for the final.
