Galatasaray sign Dries Mertens and Lucas Torreira ahead of 2022/23

Galatasaray have completed the signings of Dries Mertens and Lucas Torreira ahead of the season. The two players have been officially announced by the club as new arrivals on their website and social media accounts.

Mertens left Napoli after a nine-year spell with the Azzurri, running down his contract after a renewal was not reached. He has signed a one-year deal with the Turkish side, with the option for an automatic renewal if the club qualifies for the Champions League next season.

The Belgian has a wealth of experience at 35 years of age, and will be able to provide a lot of input to the attack as a result. The forward was able to make a strong impact off of the bench during his final seasons, and could do the same at his new club.

Lucas Torreira has signed a three-year contract with the Turkish side, until June 2025. He has joined them from Arsenal, who will receive a sum around €6-7 million for the midfielder.

It was believed that the Uruguayan will be making his loan spell at Fiorentina permanent after an impressive year on loan. However, talks fell through between both clubs and he has now made the move to Galatasaray. It now remains to be seen how his career pans out from his spell in Turkey.
