Chelsea looking at 3 new centre-backs this summer, but top academy player could leave

Chelsea’s transfer window has burst into life, following the quick confirmations of Raheem Sterling and Kalidou Koulibaly in the last few days. However, the Blues are not done yet and want to sign more players this summer.

They have lost Andreas Christensen and Antonio Rudiger as free agents, and have signed Koulibaly to replace the German. But, another defender or two might be signed – Presnel Kimpembe and Nathan Ake are the main targets for Thomas Tuchel right now.

Talks with Manchester City and Paris Saint-Germain have been started for their respective players. But, no final agreement has been found as of yet. Kimpembe worked with Thomas Tuchel before, when the German was in charge of PSG. And now, a reunion could be on the cards.

Ake’s arrival could mean that Levi Colwill seeks a permanent exit from Chelsea this summer. The youngster’s entourage wants regular game time for him, which will not be possible if more central defenders arrive. As a result, the Cobham academy product would be leaving in search of more game time.

Southampton have registered their interest in Colwill alongside several other clubs. But, losing such a top talent on a permanent deal without a buyback clause could be risky business for Todd Boehly and Tuchel.

The Chelsea manager hasn’t ruled out the signing of Cristiano Ronaldo either, with the Portugal superstar heavily rumoured to move to Stamford Bridge this summer.
