After a 44-week rest, Neeraj Chopra returned to the track and immediately established a new national mark, which he had achieved during the Tokyo Olympics last year. With a throw of 89.30 metres, India’s golden boy shattered the national record. Chopra threw 86.92 metres on his first effort of the season. No other competitor on the field had ever cleared the 85-meter mark on their first try. On his second try, home favourite Oliver Helander blasted a massive 89.83, smashing his career-best. Chopra had to retaliate, and he did so by setting a new national record.
