Tesla Chief Executive Officer Elon Musk said on Twitter that on January 17, the electric vehicle maker will raise the price of its advanced driver assistant software, known as Full Self-Driving (FSD), to $12,000 in the United States.
This price increase comes less than two years after Tesla increased the price of FSD from $8,000 to $10,000 in 2020.
“Tesla FSD pricing rising to $12k on Jan 17,” Musk wrote on the microblogging site. “Only in the United States.” He also stated that whenever FSD is released to the general public, the monthly subscription price will increase.
Tesla is expanding the release of a test version of its improved FSD software that includes driving-assistance functions like autonomously changing lanes and turning, although the company has stated that these features do not make the electric vehicle autonomous.
Musk previously revealed that the EV business is working on a system that would be constructed around eight “surround” cameras that will send data into the vehicle’s “deep neural network” to adopt full self-driving technology. Many people are skeptical about the EV major’s move. According to Musk, the procedure will be based on real-time readings collected by a camera that will feed an AI system comprised of data collected by Tesla sensors over time.
Automakers attempting to raise their game in developing sophisticated autonomy in driving, on the other hand, have paired cameras with systems such as lidars, radars based on radio waves, or both.
