Today, Nvidia AIB partners opened the lid on their custom GeForce RTX 2060 12GB graphics cards. The first review of Nvidia’s rewarmed Turing-powered graphics card has been published by PC Market (via momo mo us), a popular IT magazine in Hong Kong.

It’s not every day that a company introduces a new product from a previous line. However, due to a global semiconductor shortage, companies have been forced to take drastic measures, such as Nvidia’s redesign of the GeForce RTX 2060, which was released over two years ago.

Some believe it’s just the chipmaker getting rid of old Turing silicon, while others believe it’s a temporary fix for the graphics card shortage. The GeForce RTX 2060 12GB could be a combination of the two.

Five days ago, Nvidia released the specifications for the GeForce RTX 2060 12GB. The graphics card is essentially the offspring of the GeForce RTX 2060 Super and GeForce RTX 2060 graphics cards. Simply put, the newest member of the Turing family keeps the former’s CUDA core count and clock speeds and the latter’s memory bus, but with double the memory and a slightly higher TDP.

The Zotac Gaming GeForce RTX 2060 Twin Fan 12GB was up for review on the PC Market. The graphics card uses Micron’s 16Gb MT61K512M32KPA-14C GDDR6 chips, which are rated at 14 Gbps, according to the teardown. The memory on Nvidia’s GeForce RTX 2060, GeForce RTX 2060 12GB, and GeForce RTX 2060 Super runs at 14 Gbps, with a small amount of overclocking headroom.

The graphics cards were tested at various resolutions by the publication, but we’ll focus on the 1920×1080 (“2K”) results because that’s likely the resolution that gamers who purchase the GeForce RTX 2060 12GB will use. The Core i5-11600K, Asus ROG Maximus XIII Hero, and 16GB (2x8GB) of Kingston HyperX Predator DDR4-3200 memory were used in the PC Market’s testbed. The Nvidia GeForce Game Ready 497.07 WHQL driver was used to run the tests on Windows 11.

On average, the GeForce RTX 3060 and GeForce RTX 2070 Super outperformed the GeForce RTX 2060 12GB by 14 percent and 17 percent, respectively. The GeForce RTX 2060 12GB, on the other hand, outperformed the Radeon RX 6600 XT by 20% on average (bearing in mind the missing CP2077 result).
