Adidas and Nike dominate the table
Kicking off first place is the versatile Adidas Predator collection, with an average of 95,000 monthly global Google searches. The boots have been worn by Champions League legends Zinedine Zidane (Predator Mania) in 2002 with one of the greatest goals in the competition’s history, and Steven Gerrard (Predator Pulse) in 2005, proving they are still a firm favourite!
The Mercurial collection comes in second place with an average of 87,000 monthly global Google searches. With models such as the Mercurial Superfly and the Mercurial Vapor, it is a popular choice for players in all positions – which is why it has been on the market for almost 20 years.
In third and fourth place respectively are the Nike boot collections, Nike Phantoms and Nike Tiempos, both with 41,000 average monthly global Google searches. The Phantom collection includes the Phantom Venom Elite which is favoured by England strikers Harry Kane and Raheem Sterling – due to its added rubber surface which provides a larger area for striking. The Tiempos are an olden gem after 27 years on the market, favoured by the world’s best such as Ronaldinho – who wore the Nike Tiempo Legends in a 2005 advert for Nike, the first video on YouTube to hit 1 million views.
The Nike Flyknit collection takes fifth place. The Flyknit shoes have a light, almost seamless upper, knitted with different structures for different areas in polyester yarn with varying elasticity, thickness and strength. Supportive cables are also woven into the fabric so the shoe fits snugly like a sock but gives support and ventilation in the appropriate areas.
