Huawei’s next flagship phones could sport Qualcomm’s Snapdragon processors

Due to US sanctions, Huawei is facing chipset issues and in the latest chapter of development of this story, the company has seemingly achieved a big Qualcomm Snapdragon processors supply package. According to the information coming from Digital Chat Station, Huawei has successfully obtained a supply license for Snapdragon processors. Along with this Huawei can also make an agreement with Qualcomm to release direct successor of Snapdragon 888 which was used in Huawei P50 Series for its flagship phones.

Huawei has received supply permission for the Snapdragon 888 and Snapdragon 778G processor both with 4G use cases. However, the company is also eye the next years’ Snapdragon 898 chipset.

Huawei P50 series is the first flagship to equip with a Snapdragon processors solution – Snapdragon 888 4G alongside the 5nm homegrown Kirin 9000. Adding to this, the Huawei MatePad 11 is the first flagship tablet that equips Snapdragon 865 chips. Furthermore, the recently launched midrange phones in the global markets such as Huawei Nova 8i also comes with Snapdragon 662 chip.

Due to the lack of the Kirin chipset and the inability to use a 5G modem inside the smartphones, the company has decided to put Qualcomm first. Furthermore, the next year’s Huawei Mate 50 or P60 series is likely to come with the Snapdragon 898 chipset, which is yet to arrive on the market. It’s expected that this chip will be processed with 4nm process technology. However, its delivery is currently under concern due to the lack of required supply materials.

The upcoming Nova 9 and Nova 9 Pro are also expected to feature Kirin 778G with 4G access. However, it would be interesting to see what these phones bring to the users.

The leaker also mention that the OEM acquired the Snapdragon 778G, an SoC designed for premium mid-rangers, along with its modified 888s. However, leaker did not specify whether this order of chipsets is similarly shorn of 5G capability or not. Nevertheless, either version of the 778G might make a convincing match for something like a new generation of the Nova series.
