This was rumoured for quite some time now, and AMD has finally made its new 4700S Desktop Kit official. Unfortunately, this is nothing but using excess or not fine-tuned Xbox APUs with Zen2 architecture available in a desktop kit which is more of a compelling option when GPU prices are inflated.

This was a silent launch from AMD, and we did not get any image of the APU, though; however, the AMD 4700S 8-Core Processor and the motherboard has completely been revealed. This is a Mini ITX motherboard that supports up to 16GB of GDDR6 memory, or you can also buy the 8GB variant.

The design, however, looks a perfect match to the original Xbox Series X|S APU design and even the PlayStation 5. Although these APUs were meant for consoles, why not releasing a few of them as desktop kits in the middle of a global chip shortage?

Another strange fact though this is a Zen 2 APU, the integrated graphics here is disabled, and AMD has given a list of both Radeon and GeForce GPUs compatible with this desktop kit. Also, the motherboard has no M.2 slots, so you cannot use fast NVMe SSD but rely on SATA SSDs.

Coming to rear I/O ports, you have 3x USB3 Gen2, 1x Gen1 and 4x USB2 ports while having 2x USB3 Gen1 ports on the front panel. AMD states a minimum of 250W PSU is required; however, they also suggest 300W PSU though.

Currently, AMD has not stated the pricing for the 4700S Desktop Kit, and Videocardz is confident that it will hit shelves soon and could be even next week itself.
