AMD is outperforming intel in terms of desktop-grade CPUs. But it is still a fact that Intel is the current leader in the Notebook segment with its Tiger Lake-U processors. As such, AMD needs to perform exceptionally well in the notebook CPU segment if it wants to become the next silicon valley king. But things might change with the launch of the AMD Ryzen 9 5900HX notebook processor.
We now have a fresh leak of AMD’s upcoming Ryzen 9 5900HX notebook CPUs, a part of the next-gen Cezanne-H family of processors based on the Zen 3 core architecture. TUM_APISAK spotted the Ryzen 9 5900HX within the Geekbench database, and according to reports, the CPU features faster performance than 8 core desktop-grade processors.
The processor will offer 8 cores and 16 threads and features 16 MB of L3 cache and 4 MB of L2 cache. The chip’s base clock is rated at 3.30 GHz & the boost clock is rated at 4.70 GHz. The benchmark results show that all cores were hitting 4.70 GHz during the test and also that the chip includes an enhanced Vega GPU and overclocking support.
The platform used for testing was the ASUS ROG Zephyrus Duo 15 SE (GX551QS) notebook. The notebook features 32 GB of DDR4-3200 MHz memory.

The AMD Ryzen 9 5900HX CPU scored 1534 points in single-core and 9015 points in multi-core tests for performance. The Ryzen 9 5900HX is 4% faster in single & 18% faster in multi-core tests than the Ryzen 7 5800H, which is considerably high. But compared to the flagship predecessor, the Ryzen 7 4800H, the Ryzen 9 5900HX is 41% faster in the single-core and 36% faster in multi-core tests.
It would be interesting to see AMD’s flagship going neck-to-neck with Intel’s Tiger Lake-U processors. The blue team will launch its new entry in the notebook processor segment during the CES 2021 event. Till then, let’s wait for the semiconductor wars to resume.
