Intel Core i7-1185G7 vs AMD Ryzen 7 4800U: A new battle begins

Today, the blue team will launch the Tiger Lake CPUs today and shortly before that, the leaker @WalkingCat has yet again leaked two important videos after having leaked a series of new promotional videos of Intel. However, later the video was taken down, but it was too late as Tom’s hardware already found the detailed comparison of Intel”s upcoming flagship against AMD’s current flagship mobile processor.

The specs of the new Core i7-1185G7 have already been confirmed as it will be a 4 cores and 8 threads processor with the new Willow Cove architecture. Obviously, the new 10nm SuperFin transistors have helped to improve the performance a lot over the disappointing Ice Lake CPUs, the new Core i7-1185G7 will feature a base clock of 3.0 GHz along with a boost clock speed of up to 4.8 GHz, and it has been confirmed recently.

That’s insane amount of clock speeds in a mobile form factor giving around 2.3x times improved base clock speeds, and a 23% improved in boost clock frequencies than the previous flagship Core i7-1065G7. Also, the CPU has a lot of cache memory – 5 MB of L2 cache and 12 MB of L3 cache, all of this in 15W standard TDP package which is configurable up to 28W (PL1).

The best part about Tiger Lake is the integrated Intel Xe graphics and in the Core i7-1185G7, we have Xe-LP based DG1 integrated GPU which seems much faster than AMD’s Vega iGPU. The integrated Intel Xe graphics will feature with 96 Execution Units or 768 cores. In the leaked video the Core i7-1185G7 is facing the Ryzen 7 4800U in multiple games wherein the Intel CPU was configured to 28W (PL1) while the AMD APU was running on Extreme Performance Mode.

So, as both of the processors were running with higher wattage, the performance should be better as well because of the higher thermal limit. The new Intel Core i7-1185G7 surpassed the Ryzen 7 4800U in terms of iGPU gaming because of the new Intel Xe graphics. Also, these benchmarks confirm the Xe LP’s graphical performance over AMD’s always dominating integrated Vega graphics.

The Ryzen 7 4800U, on the other hand, the APU features eight-core, 16-threads with 8MB L3 cache with a 1.8 GHz base and 4.2 GHz boost clock speed while sporting 8 Vega Compute Units (CUs) clocked at 1,750 MHz. Not only the promotional videos but also the previous benchmarks on 3DMark also confirmed the fact that the new Intel CPU will have better-integrated graphics to that of AMD’s, so gaming on an Intel processor would not remain a myth now. More info will be known at Intel’s launch event today.
