After ten seasons, 593 games, and 20 trophies, Pep Guardiola’s time as Manchester City manager is over. His final match — a 2-1 defeat to Aston Villa on the last day of the 2025-26 Premier League season — ended without the league title he had hoped to add as a parting gift. But the silverware he collected across a decade in Manchester — across seven different competitions — constitutes one of the most extraordinary managerial records in the history of the game.

He leaves as the most successful manager in Man City’s history by every meaningful metric. He leaves having transformed not only a football club, but an entire league’s relationship with possession, pressing, and positional play.

20 — Trophies Won at Man City

Twenty titles across ten seasons. The breadth of Guardiola’s trophy haul at Man City is as striking as its scale.

The League Cup record is historic. Guardiola’s fifth EFL Cup title — secured with a win over Arsenal in the 2025-26 final at Wembley — broke the record previously held jointly by Alex Ferguson, José Mourinho, and Brian Clough, each of whom won four. His first four League Cups arrived in four consecutive seasons between 2017 and 2021 — itself a record.

The FA Cup haul of three is bettered by only four managers in history. And in 2025-26, Man City became the first side ever to win 100% of their matches across both the FA Cup and League Cup campaigns in a single season.

The landmark seasons bookend the decade. In 2018-19, City became the first men’s team to win the domestic treble in English football — Premier League, FA Cup, and League Cup. In 2022-23, they completed the ‘proper’ treble — adding the Champions League with a 1-0 final victory over Inter Milan.

Six of those 20 trophies came in the Premier League, making Guardiola the joint second-most decorated manager in English top-flight history.

Only Alex Ferguson (13 titles) has won more. Guardiola’s sixth puts him level with Bob Paisley of Liverpool and George Ramsay of Aston Villa. Four of those six titles arrived in four consecutive seasons from 2020-21 to 2023-24 — the only time that has ever been achieved in the history of English top-flight football.

His final two seasons saw City miss out on the title — the first consecutive campaigns in Guardiola’s managerial career in which he failed to win the league championship.

593 — Games in Charge

Guardiola’s final game against Aston Villa was his 593rd as Man City manager across all competitions — taking him past Les McDowall’s record of 592 games as City boss, set between 1950 and 1963.

Across those 593 games, he faced 159 different managers and recorded wins against 142 of them.

The only managers to face him more than once and avoid defeat entirely were Fabian Hürzeler (W2 D2), Ronald Koeman (W1 D2), Bruno Génésio (W1 D1), and Álvaro Arbeloa (W2) — the only manager to face Guardiola at least twice and win every time.

He departs as the most successful manager in Man City’s history by both win percentage and total wins.

2.28 — Points per Game in the Premier League

Guardiola’s place in Premier League history is secured by a single figure. His points-per-game rate of 2.28 is the best of any manager to have taken charge of at least 20 games in the competition’s entire history.

Despite managing fewer total games than several contemporaries, Guardiola sits fourth on the all-time list of managers with the most Premier League victories — 269 wins — behind only Ferguson (528), Arsène Wenger (476), and David Moyes (290). He has the best win rate of any manager in the top ten for most wins at 71%.

Since his arrival in 2016-17, Guardiola has won more Premier League games (269) than any other manager — well clear of his closest rival, Diego Simeone (223). His Man City sides have accumulated 865 Premier League points across his 380 league games — 64 more than any other team over the same period.

100 — Points Won in 2017-18

One season above all others set the benchmark. Man City’s 2017-18 campaign produced 100 Premier League points — a record that still stands.

The century was completed with a stoppage-time winner from Gabriel Jesus against Southampton on the final day. It was built on 32 wins — a new English top-flight record, replicated (though not exceeded) the following season.

The 106 goals scored that season were the most by any side in a Premier League campaign. The last English top-flight team to score more in a single season was Spurs in 1962-63, who netted 111. City won the title by 19 points — the largest winning margin in the competition’s history.

591 — Successful Passes per Game

If one number captures the transformative nature of Guardiola’s influence on English football, it is this. Since records began in 2008-09, no team under a single manager — across at least 20 games — has averaged more successful passes per game than Man City under Guardiola: 591 per match.

Only six other managers across those 18 seasons have seen their sides average over 500 successful passes per game.

The top seven tallies for completed passes by teams in a single Premier League season since 2008-09 all belong to Man City under Guardiola — with 2017-18’s 25,142 the highest on record. The top eight seasonal possession figures over the same period also belong exclusively to Guardiola-led City sides.

His approach did not merely dominate the record books. It rewired how an entire league played football — from goalkeepers and their use of the ball to how every other club approached possession and pressing.

111 — Players Used

Guardiola called upon 111 different players across his decade at Man City, but the hierarchy of trust was clear.

Bernardo Silva was his most-used player — appearing 460 times under Guardiola, 79 more than the next most frequent, Kevin De Bruyne (381). The numbers around Bernardo are staggering: 329 of Guardiola’s 416 wins — 71.5% — came with Bernardo involved.

Ederson made the most starts of any player during the reign (371) and accumulated the most minutes (33,168).

De Bruyne assisted 158 goals under Guardiola — more than double the next highest contribution by a City player during his tenure (Bernardo Silva, 75).
