Zach Cregger’s ‘Resident Evil’ Netflix Release Date: When the New Raccoon City Horror Film Hits Streaming

Zach Cregger just unleashed his terrifying take on Resident Evil in theaters — and streaming fans are already counting down. Thanks to a solid Netflix-Sony deal, this one’s coming home sooner than you’d think. Here’s exactly when.

What Is Cregger’s ‘Resident Evil’ About?

Fresh off Barbarian and Weapons, Cregger and co-writer Shay Hatten crafted an original survival-horror story set in Raccoon City — not a direct game adaptation. The film follows Bryan (Austin Abrams), a medical courier caught in a single horrifying night as infected monsters overrun the city. Paul Walter Hauser, Zach Cherry, Kali Reis, and Johnno Wilson round out the cast.

When Will It Hit Netflix?

Because Sony Pictures distributes the film, it falls under Netflix’s existing first-window streaming deal with Sony, which typically brings films to Netflix 120 days after theatrical release.

Why Netflix Gets It So Fast (In Some Regions)?

Netflix and Sony struck a multi-year first-window deal back in 2021, meaning nearly all of Sony’s theatrical releases land on Netflix shortly after their theatrical and PVOD runs — but only in specific territories until the broader global deal kicks in for 2027.

What About the Old Netflix ‘Resident Evil’ Show?

Netflix already tried its own live-action Resident Evil series in 2022, starring Lance Reddick, but it was cancelled after one season due to lore deviations and pandemic-era production issues. This new Cregger film marks a fresh, more promising chapter for the franchise on streaming.
