Yu Yu Hakusho Season 2 Is Reportedly Filming Soon, but Netflix Is Staying Quiet

After nearly three years of silence, Yusuke Urameshi may finally be coming back. Fresh production details suggest Yu Yu Hakusho season 2 is really happening, but there’s a catch: Netflix hasn’t confirmed anything yet.

What We Know So Far on Yu Yu Hakusho S2?

Japanese outlet Tokyo Sports first reported a renewal in August. Now, sources cited by What’s on Netflix say filming could begin as soon as October 24, 2026, around Hiratsuka Station in Kanagawa Prefecture. The shoot will reportedly run overnight with around 300 extras a day, which hints at a big street-level action sequence.

Why Has It Taken So Long?

Season 1 was a hit, opening at number 1 on Netflix’s non-English TV chart with 7.7 million views. Netflix called it the biggest debut for a Japanese series on the service. Still, no renewal followed.

Part of the reason may be the scale of production. The five episodes reportedly took around five years to make, including development, shooting, and two years of visual effects work. Director Sho Tsukikawa has also said the show was originally planned for three seasons but was cut back due to budget and timelines. Because production is so slow, don’t expect season 2 before 2028.

What Could the Story Cover?

Season 1 raced through the source material, moving from the Spirit Detective arc into the Dark Tournament. Season 2 is reportedly set to adapt the rest of the manga, including the Chapter Black and Three Kings sagas, up to the Demon World Unification Tournament. Some threads are already seeded, including a nod to a previous Spirit Detective and the unresolved fate of Elder Toguro. Expect liberties with the original story again.
