YouTube Music, Google’s music streaming platform, has finally caught up with its competitors, Apple Music and Spotify, with the addition of a real-time lyrics feature for Android devices. This update adds a new dimension to the music streaming experience, allowing users to follow the lyrics in real time as they listen to their favourite tracks.
YouTube Music brings Real-Time Lyrics and Podcast
Previously, YouTube Music only displayed static lyrics, which required users to manually scroll through the lyrics as the song played. However, with the latest update, the app will now highlight the lyrics in real-time, with the currently played line being shown in white, while the background is muted, and the font size and line spacing increased for ease of reading.
This new feature is a significant improvement for YouTube Music, and it brings the app in line with its competitors. Real-time lyrics have become a standard feature on music streaming platforms, and users have come to expect this feature on any music streaming app.
Moreover, YouTube Music has also introduced a new ‘Podcasts’ tab to its channel pages. This new tab sits between the ‘Live’ and ‘Playlist’ tabs, making it easier for users to find and access podcasts on the app. The playlist on this tab is marked as a playlist by the creator, and only content marked as podcasts will appear in YouTube Music.
However, the podcast support feature is still under testing and has limited availability, and only some users have received it. For now, the YouTube app podcasts tab remains video-focused. It is not clear whether this feature will be extended to iOS devices and other platforms.
