Yoona & Lee Jin Uk May Team Up for Korea’s Take on “Unnatural” — Here’s What We Know

A new drama pairing might be brewing, and it’s a promising one. Lee Jin Uk is reportedly in talks to join Girls’ Generation’s Yoona for the Korean remake of the hit Japanese series “Unnatural.” Both actors’ agencies have confirmed they’re “positively reviewing” the offers, which is industry-speak for “this is looking very real.”

Yoona’s involvement first surfaced back on May 9, when SM Entertainment acknowledged she’d received the offer. Now, on July 15, reports confirm Lee Jin Uk is in similar talks, with his agency BH Entertainment backing up the news. If both sign on, fans could be looking at one of the more anticipated drama pairings of the year.

Unnatural: Key Details

The original “Unnatural” swept Japanese drama awards for its sharp writing and gripping forensic mysteries, following pathologists who dig up the truth behind unexplained deaths. The Korean version keeps that core premise intact, with Yoona’s Im Do Eun bringing sharp instincts and warmth to the case, while Lee Jin Uk’s Koo Seung Hyuk plays the cooler, evidence-first counterpart shaped by a tragic past. That contrast alone sets up some compelling on-screen chemistry.

Director Park Yoo Young, known for “The Kidnapping Day” and “Ms. Incognito,” is set to helm the project, adding credibility to what’s shaping up to be a serious awards-season contender. Remakes of acclaimed Japanese television dramas have become increasingly common in Korea, often adapting beloved originals for a new audience while keeping their emotional core intact.
