Xiaomi Overtakes Vivo as India’s Leading Smartphone Maker in Q2 2024: Canalys Report

With a CAGR of 10%, Canalys found that the Indian smartphone market grew only by 1% in Q2, with total shipments crossing 36.4 million units for the quarter. That left Xiaomi after six quarters once again at the top of themarket, with Vivo close behind one of India’s other leading Chinese brands. All About Xiaomi Overtaking Vivo

Xiaomi re-entered the leaderboard with a 6.7 million unit shipment in Q2 2024, accounting for an overall share of 18 percent and its top spot among vendors. The recovery was driven by high sales of key models, such as the Redmi Note 14 Pro series and Xiaomi’s latest innovation ‘Xiaomi 14 Civi’ that were well-received among Indian consumers.

Vivo slipped to 2nd place, shipping the very same number of units as last year – a respectable figure at 6.7 million for its affordable and midrange lineup with competitive pricing. Samsung was third with a 17 percent share and 6.1 million units shipped. Realme with a share of 12 percent and shipments of 4.3 million units ranked fourth the quarter.

OPPO (OnePlus not included) ranked fifth with an 11% market share and shipments of 4.2 million units in Q2 2024. It was crystal clear that Chinese phone brands ruled over the Indian market during this period.

Xiaomi also celebrated 10 years in the Indian smartphone market, alongside its progress. The company announced it has shipped over 350 million devices in total, including 250 million smartphones, over the past 10 years. Looking ahead, Xiaomi aims to further expand its footprint by targeting to ship over 700 million devices by the year 2034.
