Xiaomi has now become the second-largest smartphone vendor in the world. According to a new report from Canalys, this is based on their total worldwide shipments in the Q2 of 2021.

Xiaomi has captured 17 percent of the global market share. Canalys also shows that the Chinese company is only behind Samsung’s 19 percent. They have overtaken Apple (14 percent) for the first time.

BBK-owned Oppo and Vivo made it into the list of top 5 vendors at 10 percent each. All these 5 companies have shown growth in their shipments year on year. The most noteworthy part is just how huge an increase its shipments volume Xiaomi has shown. There was an 83 percent growth in shipped phones as compared to Q2 2020. On the contrary table-toppers, Samsung, grew shipments by 15 percent and Apple by a meager one percent.

A Huge Potential

There has been a rapid sales boost for Xiaomi in regions including Western Europe, Africa, and Latin America. Canalys Research Manager Ben Stanton cited this data when he remarked, “Xiaomi is growing its overseas business rapidly. It is still largely skewed toward the mass market, however, and compared with Samsung and Apple, its average selling price is around 40% and 75% cheaper respectively. So a major priority for Xiaomi this year is to grow sales of its high-end devices, such as the Mi 11 Ultra.”

According to Canalys, the global smartphone shipments have grown in the last quarter. This growth was almost a 12 percent move up. A huge potion of this growth seen by smartphone makers is thanks to Huawei. They even overtook Apple in 2019. This dream run however came to a halt after Huawei was shut out of the worldwide market. This happened after the USA imposed sanctions and trading bans on the company. Xiaomi has come out of this as the biggest beneficiary.
