As part of the Xbox Games Showcase, Activision officially unveiled Call of Duty: Black Ops 7. To the surprise of many, this is the first time in the history of the franchise that two Black Ops titles will release in consecutive years, after the launch of Black Ops 6 in 24.

Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 Announced at Xbox Showcase, Features New Campaign, Zombies & Game Pass Launch
The next installment is in development at Treyarch and Raven Software, the same pair who worked on the last one. Black Ops 7 will take place in 2035 — more than 40 years after the events of Black Ops 6, and about a decade after Black Ops 2. The plot of the game is being branded by Activision as the “most mind-bending” in series history, which is saying something for a franchise with a reputation for sprawling, often bizarre narratives.
In this new chapter, players will find a world teetering on the edge of chaos, shaped by global conflict and psychological warfare. David Mason returns to lead his team against a formidable enemy who thrives on using fear as a weapon. Players can expect access to advanced, cutting-edge tech as they navigate this dystopian battlefield. Black Ops 7 will include a story campaign playable solo or cooperatively, as well as the traditional multiplayer experience.
Fan-favorite round-based Zombies mode is also making a comeback, offering classic undead survival action. So far, Activision has only dropped a cinematic teaser, with more information set to roll out in the coming weeks and months. Activision Publishing president Tyler Bahl noted the goal is to give players additional time to enjoy ongoing content in Black Ops 6 and Warzone before fully transitioning to Black Ops 7.
The full reveal is scheduled for later this summer, with the game confirmed to launch this year on Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, PS5, PS4, and PC via the Xbox app, Steam, and Battle.net. As a first-party release, it will also be available day one on Game Pass Ultimate and PC Game Pass. There’s no word yet on a Nintendo Switch 2 release, despite Microsoft and Nintendo’s ongoing Call of Duty partnership.
