The World Test Championship finals for 2023 and 2025 will be hosted at Oval and Lords. Last time in 2021, the finals were hosted at Southampton where India faced New Zealand. The latter won the match and lifted the trophy for the first edition of the tournament.
The Oval is set to host the final in June 2023 where the top two teams from the World Test Championship will compete against each other. Earlier, this venue hosted the finals of the 2004 and 2017 editions of ICC Men’s Champions Trophy.
At this moment, Australia and South Africa are the top two teams. The former has a points percentage of 70 and SA has 60%. Both the teams will clash against each other in a three0match series in the current cycle (December-January) which can completely change the game.
“We are delighted to be hosting next year’s ICC World Test Championship Final at The Oval which has such a rich legacy and an amazing atmosphere, which is ideal for such an important fixture on the calendar,” said ICC Chief Executive Geoff Allardice.
The next edition of the Final is set to take place at one of the most iconic stadiums, in Lords. The venue also hosted several high profile ICC matches. 2019’s ICC Men’s World Cyp final was also held there.
“Last year’s final between New Zealand and India in Southampton was an engrossing encounter and I am sure fans the world over would be looking forward to the next WTC final at The Oval. On behalf of the ICC, I would like to thank the England and Wales Cricket Board, Surrey County Cricket Club and Marylebone Cricket Club for their support.”– said Geoff on 2025’s venue
Meanwhile, the dates for 2023 and 2025 ICC World Test Championship is going to be announced very soon. England was identified as the host of the upcoming two WTC Finals in the ICC Annual General Meeting in Birmingham this July.
