World Cup Final Descends Into Chaos as Paredes Faces FIFA’s Wrath After Full-Time Brawl

World Cup Final: Spain’s coronation as world champions should have been a moment of pure celebration. Instead, the final whistle triggered ugly scenes on the pitch, with Argentina midfielder Leandro Paredes now facing the possibility of a lengthy international ban after a post-match altercation that has grabbed FIFA’s full attention.

How the Chaos Unfolded

According to reports from Demócrata, tensions ignited when Nahuel Molina struck Rodrigo Hernández amid Spain’s celebrations, setting off a chain reaction. Paredes reportedly confronted several Spanish players, engaging Eric García before shoving Gavi, despite Lionel Scaloni’s attempts to intervene and separate the two sides.

What Happens Next to Paredes

As reported by ESPN and TyC Sports, FIFA’s Disciplinary Committee is reviewing the referee’s report alongside high-definition footage to determine whether Paredes’ conduct amounted to premeditated aggression, which could extend his suspension well beyond a single match. FIFA has not yet issued a final ruling, and officials caution against speculating on the length of any ban while the investigation remains open.

The Man at the Centre of It All

At 32, Paredes remains one of Argentina’s most experienced internationals, having won the 2021 Copa América, 2022 Finalissima, 2022 World Cup and 2024 Copa América during Scaloni’s golden era. After stints at Roma, Zenit, Juventus and PSG, he returned to boyhood club Boca Juniors in July 2025 on a deal through December 2028. Full disciplinary updates will be published on the official FIFA website.
