We already know that Microsoft is making a light-weight version of its Windows 10 OS. The new OS will be called Windows 10X and is scheduled to launch next year. Earlier the company was supposed to launch its new OS this year, but for various reasons, the Redmond-based software giant had to postpone its plan.
According to fresh sources, Windows 10X is based completely on Windows 10 core and will be released in Quarter 2 of 2021. Windows 10X from Microsoft will come with a ‘Modern Standby’ feature to offer an instant-on and always-connected experience.
No matter even if you are using an SSD when the laptop is put to sleep mode and then when the lid is open, laptops take some time to wake up from sleep mode. With instant-on, the company aims to offer an experience where the system resumes as soon as the lid is open.
The always-connected feature will enable the apps to work in the background even during sleep mode. This will be helpful for apps like emails, allowing it to fetch email messages in the background. Microsoft has promised to make most of its Store apps compatible with the always-connected feature.
Reports indicate that Microsoft will add a new File Explorer to the Windows 10X. Since we know that the Windows 10X project was supposed to focus on dual-screen and foldable devices but the company is now focusing only on single-screen devices for the time being. But we can expect the software giant to provide the OS for dual-screen devices as well.
