Widow’s Bay Season 2 Is Official — But the Wait Just Got Real

Apple TV+’s breakout horror-comedy hit is coming back. Here’s everything you need to know about Widow’s Bay Season 2 — including the one update that has fans a little worried.

Widow’s Bay- Overview

What Is Widow’s Bay?

Widow’s Bay follows Mayor Tom Loftis (Matthew Rhys), a man desperate to revive his struggling community on a cursed New England island. He succeeds in attracting tourists — but the locals were right all along. After decades of calm, the terrifying old legends begin coming true again.

The show blends folk horror with dark comedy, drawing comparisons to Jaws and Stephen King — and it works brilliantly.

Is Season 2 Confirmed?

Yes — and decisively. Apple TV+ officially renewed Widow’s Bay for Season 2 on June 11, 2026, just days before the Season 1 finale. Apple also signed a multi-year overall deal with creator Katie Dippold.

Dippold has teased that Season 2 will move beyond denial into something bigger: “Going forward would be about really living in it. What kind of leader can you be in these circumstances?”

The Concerning Production Update

Here’s the catch — director and executive producer Hiro Murai has confirmed that the writers’ room for Season 2 hasn’t started yet, meaning the scripts haven’t been written. Typically, shows like this require months to write, months of pre-production, months of filming, and then post-production on top of that.

If filming begins in late 2026, a realistic release window would be late 2027 or early 2028.

Painful? Yes. Worth it? Probably — given that the series holds a 97% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes, with critics calling it “an absolute blast” — “Mare of Easttown meets Schitt’s Creek, but with something else that makes it singular.” Wikipedia

What to Expect in Season 2?

The Season 1 finale dropped a massive cliffhanger: Tom discovers his son is the last ancestor of Richard Warren, and a demon is demanding eight more sacrifices.

Season 2 has a lot to answer for. Learn more about the show’s mythology on Wikipedia.
