Reasons why Rohit, Virat failing at IPL 2022

While the Indian Premier League is running a great season so far fans are disappointed to see Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli not exactly being in their best forms. These two captains from Mumbai Indians and Royal Challengers Bangalore are struggling in TATA IPL to say the least.

Former cricketer and now a commentator Sanjay Manjrekar analyzed both of the batsmen’s forms and said to ESPN “Rohit is hitting good 20s and whenever he plays he looks in good touch. It’s not a bad patch like Virat Kohli who doesn’t look in good form”.

From Rohit’s lack of runs on the board to Kohli’s bad patch, we will look into the reasons behind them failing at IPL 2022.

Both Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli are crucial players for the Indian team. Throughout the year in all three formats of Cricket, the batsmen are equally engaged and active. In a simple sentence, the players are exhausting their resources which is resulting in poor performance.

“Jos Buttler benefitted from a break during England’s Test series in the West Indies, you’ve had the likes of Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli and Jonny Bairstow playing all formats and living in bubbles for months on end. That is not anyway to maximise world-class talent,” Pietersen said in a column to IPL betting site Betway.

Former English Cricketer Michael Vaughan remarked on Rohit’s recent form saying “I honestly think it’s time for Rohit Sharma to take a breather,” he went on to explain “They play so much cricket, you have to pick and choose when you can take a breather”

“A captain is only as good as his team”.

The above statement somewhat explains Rohit’s lack of runs and consistency. Standing at the bottom of the IPL table Mumbai Indians currently have 0 points. With the loss of 7 out of 7 matches, the team has almost no chance to qualify for the playoffs. From the playground to Social Media everyone is holding the captain accountable for the situation which affected Rohit’s form under the enormous pressure of T20 the league.

If we declare that Virat is having a bad patch in this season of TATA IPL that would be an understatement. In the last two matches, against Sunrisers Hyderabad and Lucknow Super Giants, Virat scored ducks. In 8 matches he has put only 119 runs to the board with an average of 17 per innings. Having such poor statistics from someone who previously won the Orange cap and set the record for the highest runs in a single season in the history of IPL is disheartening. Dilip Vengsarkar examined Kohli’s performance and said that his lack of confidence in this season is playing a massive role here.

“Scoring runs is basically how you adapt to the situation and conditions. What happens is if you are not scoring it always weighs on your mind. The game is all about confidence which comes whenever he scores,” Vengsarkar said.

The fans took to social media to pour out their love and support for these two big hitters and we are all praying that things turn around for them in the upcoming matches of the IPL 2022.
