Park Hang-seo, the legendary head coach of Vietnam, has reportedly registered his interest in the Indian national team. The AIFF is currently open to applications from candidates across the globe, and the veteran’s interest should come as a great sign.
The 66-year-old helped transform Vietnam into one of the top teams in Asia, guiding them to the quarter finals of the AFC Asian Cup, as well as the final round of the FIFA World Cup Qualifiers.

Under Park Hang-seo, Vietnam spent a record amount of time in the top 100 of the FIFA World Rankings. Moreover, they also played a solid counter attacking style of play, which helped them earn victories over much higher ranked teams.
During his five years in charge of Vietnam, he managed 53 games, winning 26, drawing 12 and losing 15.
While his arrival would be huge for Indian football, his $50,000 while in charge of Vietnam could be a deterrent. The AIFF has clearly mentioned that they’re operating on a tight budget, and need an experienced manager to make use of the resources available.
As of now, 214 applicants have put their name forward, ahead of the July 3 deadline. Next week, the AIFF will go through the applications and will decide the next steps to appoint a permanent head coach.
