Manchester City are in talks with River Plate for Claudio Echeverri, and are planning to sign the youngster in the coming days. They are hopeful of sealing an agreement for €20 million, and plan on keeping him at River Plate, similar to the structure they used to sign Julian Alvarez a few years ago.Â
The youngster is keen on the move, and both clubs are in contact over the details of the transfer. For City, it will represent another investment into the South American market for their future, continuing their impressive transfer strategy.
Who is Claudio Echeverri, the Manchester City-bound youngster?Â
At just 17 years old, Claudio Echeverri is one of the most exciting talents from River Plate after Julian Alvarez. The Resistencia-born attacking midfielder might not be as tall right now, but has the skills and technical ability to make up for his stature.
He has captained the Argentina U-17 team, and scored 10 goals in 18 outings for the youth team. Moreover, he also won the top scorer award at the Under-17 South American Championship this year, scoring five goals.
Barcelona had also registered their interest in the player since he idolises, and is similar to Lionel Messi in his playing style. But, City are ahead in the race to sign him and are in pole position to wrap up the deal soon. He will be staying on at River Plate until he is 18, so that he can get regular game time until he is legally allowed to move to Europe.
