Professor X is in. Magneto is in. But where are Storm, Rogue and Jean Grey? A new theory built on the Avengers: Endgame Encore re-release offers an answer, and it’s heartbreaking.
X-Men Go Snapshot
| Detail | Info |
|---|---|
| Film | Avengers: Doomsday |
| Release | December 18 |
| Villain | Doctor Doom (Robert Downey Jr.) |
| Theory source | The Direct (fan-style analysis, not confirmed) |
| Key clue | New post-credits footage in Endgame Encore |
| Core idea | Repeated universe “incursions” wiped out several mutants |
The Clue in Endgame Encore
The re-release reportedly includes new footage setting up Doomsday. In one post-credits scene, the TVA watches an incursion between Earth-10005, the designated home of the Fox-era X-Men, and a new reality called Earth-1127. Each world fires missiles at the other, since the only known way to survive is to destroy the opposing Earth first. Roughly 3,000 realities then begin colliding, and a TVA agent concludes the Multiverse is collapsing.
Why That Could Explain the Missing Heroes?
If the Fox universe survived several incursions, casualties would be unavoidable. The Direct points to Doomsday footage that supports this: the X-Men teaser showed Xavier’s school in ruins, and the trailer showed Xavier gazing at a burning red sky, a classic comic-book sign of an incursion. Xavier and Magneto also calmly play chess amid the chaos, which suggests they’ve faced this before.
There’s a caveat. The exact timeline these X-Men come from is still unconfirmed, and they might even belong to the unnamed world glimpsed in The Marvels post-credits scene, where Kelsey Grammer’s Beast appeared.

What Have the Russos Said?
Anthony Russo declined to answer specifics about Jean Grey, Storm and Rogue, but said the X-Men’s history feeds into the movie in a meaningful way. Joe Russo added that there are always more surprises. That isn’t confirmation of the theory, so treat it as speculation until the film arrives.
