When Nana Patekar Actually Slapped Madhoo Shah On Set — And She Hit Him Right Back

Bollywood has always had its share of behind-the-scenes drama, but this one is straight out of a filmmaker’s wildest script. Actress Madhoo Shah has just revealed a jaw-dropping incident from the sets of the 1997 film Yeshwant — one that turned into the most powerful scene of the entire movie.

The Film & The Actors

What Actually Happened on Set?

During filming of a scene in Yeshwant, the crew was preparing with glycerine to simulate tears. But Nana Patekar refused the shortcut. He insisted the emotions had to be real — tears had to come naturally. When Madhoo’s tears wouldn’t flow, Patekar did something nobody expected: he delivered a real slap mid-scene, completely unannounced, to shock a genuine reaction out of her. team-bhp

In her own words, she described it as a moment of pure fury: her instinct kicked in, and she slapped him right back — on camera, in the master shot. The real emotions that poured out after that moment were so powerful that the shoot was wrapped up for half the day right after. The scene, born out of that raw, unscripted exchange, became the most crucial sequence in Yeshwant. team-bhp

This incident is a striking window into method acting — the technique where actors draw on real emotions rather than performed ones. Nana Patekar has long been known for his intense, deeply immersive approach to every role, and this story proves that reputation is no exaggeration.

Madhoo herself acknowledges that this experience fundamentally changed how she approaches her craft. She credits Nana Patekar with teaching her method acting, calling the on-set slap incident the lesson that stuck with her the most. team-bhp
