Vivo has officially teased its upcoming foldable smartphone, the Vivo X Fold 5, which will succeed the Vivo X Fold 3 while skipping the number 4 due to cultural beliefs associating it with bad luck. The brand has mentioned the X Fold 5’s sleeker and lighter design, posting a comparison with the X Fold 3 in a teaser video from Vivo executive Han Boxiao.

Vivo X Fold 5 teased with Snapdragon 8 Gen 3, 6,000mAh battery, slimmer design; India launch expected soon
The new foldable measures just 4.3mm when closed and 9.3mm when opened, making it thinner than the X Fold 3’s closed 4.7mm and open 10.2mm folded measurements. While the absolute weight is unknown, the X Fold 3 weighs 219g, and X Fold 5 is speculated to surpass this thinness record. The foldable is also touted to be “the world’s first three-proof large folding” mobile device, meaning it has improved resistance against dust, water, and shock. While the front and rear designs remain undisclosed, the X Fold 5 seems to retain a USB Type-C port and speaker grille similar to its predecessor.
The recent leak of specifications suggests the foldable will have a 6.53-inch cover display and an 8.03-inch primary AMOLED display — both with 2K resolution and a 120Hz refresh rate (matching X Fold 3’s display configuration). The new device is expected to feature a Snapdragon 8 Gen 3, providing a performance upgrade over the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 used in the X Fold 3. The phone is set to offer 16GB of RAM and 512GB of storage, though there could be more options available at launch.
According to them, the X Fold 5 will come with a bigger 6,000mAh battery compared to the X Fold 3’s 5,500mAh and the X Fold 3 Pro’s 5,700mAh batteries, along with 90W fast charging support compared to the 80W fast charging on the X Fold 3. Camera-wise, the X Fold 5 is expected to continue with the same triple camera setup as its predecessor, including a 50MP primary sensor, an ultra-wide lens, and a periscope telephoto camera, along with a 32MP dual front camera system.
Other specs should have a side-mounted fingerprint sensor, alert slider, and AI improvements, and an IP rating for water and dust resistance. Although Vivo has not confirmed the launch date, reports suggest the Vivo X Fold 5 will debut in China this month. Its listing on India’s BIS certification platform under model number V2429 strongly indicates an impending launch in the Indian market, where Vivo previously released the X Fold 3 Pro but not the vanilla X Fold 3.
The foldable has also been certified in Malaysia, further confirming its planned global availability. Given that the X Fold 3 Pro was launched in India at ₹1,59,999, the vanilla X Fold 5 could be priced lower but is still expected to be a premium flagship offering.
