Apple’s Vision Pro production might get affected by hardware Shortages

The viability of Apple’s recently unveiled Vision Pro is a topic of continuous discussion. Some people think the early interest is rather meager, despite Apple’s assertion to the contrary. Ming-Chi Kuo, a well-known market analyst, supports the doubters in this debate and can provide data to support his arguments.

According to Kuo, the lack of hardware will be Apple’s biggest challenge in the near future. Only a few important suppliers remain, and they can only provide half of what Apple had originally anticipated. Therefore, only 400,000 to 600,000 Vision Pros will probably be produced in 2024 based on the maximum capacity of those vendors. And even with that, the anticipated demand of 1 million units in the same year would not be met.

Because of this, Apple decided to stop working on the low-cost headset it had intended to release in 2025. By concentrating on the sole Vision Pro that is readily available, the corporation is able to create the required number of units. Apple is also anticipated to release new hardware in the future in 2027 because it won’t be able to resolve its current supply chain problems.

Despite the good user experience, Ming-Chi Kuo thinks Apple will struggle to communicate the various use cases to people and to explain why they actually need a Vision Pro in the first place.

In other news, Ming-Chi Kuo also stated that Apple may have abandoned plans to create a less expensive version of the Apple Vision Pro headset. It was widely reported that a more affordable model would be released around 2025, although that may not actually materialize.

However, he warns that significant shipment growth in Vision Pro shipments may not occur in 2025 unless Apple dramatically reduces costs. Kuo does not provide a rationale for why the less expensive headset may have been abandoned. The number of headsets Apple will release in 2024 is predicted to be between 400,000 and 600,000. According to Kuo, while these headsets will offer a “excellent experience,” it might take “longer than the market expects” for them to become Apple’s next flagship product.
