Virat Kohli has not achieved a century since November 2019 due to a decline in his batting performance. In the meanwhile, as part of his workload management, the batting megastar has been rested for the next limited-overs series against the West Indies, beginning July 22. He will now be seen in action at the Asia Cup 2022, beginning August 27.
After the current bilateral all-format series against England concludes, it has been claimed that Kohli would remain in London to spend some quality time with his family. On Sunday, July 17, at Old Trafford in Manchester, India and the Three Lions will face off in the third One Day International, which will decide the series.
A Times Now report said, “Virat Kohli will be joined by his mother and extended family during the break. Kohli will avoid cricket during the said time and will kick off the preparations for Asia Cup 2022 from August 1. Kohli is in England with his wife and daughter.”
Jasprit Bumrah has also been rested for the West Indies series in addition to Virat Kohli because neither player has been nominated to the ODI or T20I teams. As the normal skipper Rohit Sharma will be resting for the three One Day Internationals, Shikhar Dhawan will captain the Men in Blue. India’s captain for the five T20Is will once again be Rohit.
Virat Kohli has not been able to find form lately
Since he could only manage scores of 11 and 20 in the fifth Test match that had to be rescheduled and 1 and 11 in the two T20Is, Kohli has had a dismal tour of England thus far.
The legendary batsman missed the first ODI of the series but could only muster 16 runs in the second contest at Lord’s, which India ultimately lost by a huge margin of 100 runs. He will now be aiming to play his best in the championship match in Manchester as India looks to win their first ODI series on English soil since 2014.
