Barcelona earned their first away win of the season, with a dramatic last few minutes against Villarreal providing them two goals to seal all three points on the road.
Despite convincing attacking displays from both teams, neither was able to find the back of the net more times. As a result, were left with four goals to see in the game.
The scoring opened in the second half, with Frenkie De Jong finding the breakthrough. Jordi Alba’s shot at goal was saved by Geronimo Rulli, who could only push it to the far post. De Jong was at the right place to meet the saved effort, and finished the chance to give them the lead.
Samuel Chukwueze equalised for the home team in the 76th minute, with an assist from Arnaut Danjuma. The goal came from Unai Emery’s midfield, which has had trouble getting the goals despite having the likes of Dani Parejo and Etienne Capoue in the squad.
In the 88th minute, Pervis Estupinan’s poor header back to Rulli was pounced on by Memphis Depay. The Netherlands international gave Barcelona the lead late in the game. And shortly after, Philippe Coutinho earned and converted a penalty to make it 3 goals away from home for Barcelona.
Villarreal are now in 12th place in the table, while Barcelona are climbing up the ranks. They are now in 7th place and will be happy with the way the game played out in the end.
