Mattias Lilja, the Deputy CEO of Paradox Interactive, recently spoke about where the company is heading and what we can expect from their upcoming projects such as Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines 2. Speaking to PCGamesN, Lilja reaffirmed that the game is expected to launch in the first half of 2025, following its latest delay. The developer of the game was transferred from Hardsuit Labs to The Chinese Room halfway through. Still, despite the turmoil of swapping developers mid-development, Lilja seemed bullish that the new team was now making Bloodlines 2 in a way Paradox intended.
The Upcoming Vampire: The Masquerade – Bloodlines 2
Hired after The Chinese Room took over, Lilja told that they have been free to reinterpret the game with old assets and script work done when Hardsuit Labs still overseeing its development. This new artistic palette has helped rejuvenate interest in the project. Lilja reiterated “We’re really having some good progress, and we are crossing our fingers that it will be within the year 2025,” making sure the final game fits what fans expect of a sequel.
However, Lilja said it is unlikely Paradox would make something like Bloodlines 3 internally. If nothing else, it’s unlikely that Paradox has it in them to make something of the Bloodlines license since, outside their core wheelhouse of grand strategy and management games, they would probably just license the rights to another developer. Lilja suggested that future Paradox titles, especially post-2025, will return to these genres.
This pivot back to Paradox’s comfort zone comes after the cancellation of another game, Life Is You, and the near-cancellation of Bloodlines 2. With The Chinese Room now at the helm, Bloodlines 2 will still be set in Seattle, but the story has shifted. Players will control Phyre, an Elder vampire who has awakened after a century-long sleep, rather than the Thinblood protagonist from the original concept, offering a new narrative perspective within the same dark, snowy Seattle setting.
