There have been several leaks over the past few months regarding the handheld console being developed by Valve. And now the device is finally here, officially announced in its full glory by Valve. We had already speculated that the device, the Steam Pal, will come with an AMD Zen2 CPU and RDNA2 GPU.
According to official specifications, the device will sport a stunning SteamOS 3.0 operating system based on Arch Linux distribution, pretty cool man. The official name of the device is called Steam Deck, Valve’s new handheld gaming console.
The console is powered by a quad-core AMD Zen 2 CPU with up to 3.5 GHz boost and 8 GPU cores based on RDNA2 architecture. The GPU has a boost clock of up to 1.6 GHz and the APU reportedly supports the power of 4 to 15W. however, we have still not received any confirmation saying whether it is AMD’s Van Gogh APU.
Steam Deck handheld gaming console comes with 16GB of LPDDR5 memory (5500 MT/s) and 64GB eMMC storage. It also that another variation of the device will offer 256GB of NVMe SSD or 512 GB NVMe SSD. the console also supports a high-speed micro SD card slot.
The shipment of the device is expected to begin in December 2021 and the dock however will be sold separately. Steam Deck will cost 399 USD for 64GB version, 529 USD for 256GB model and 649 USD for 512GB variant.
